Do you take your life for granted? I admit I do sometimes. I mean there’s so much to be thankful for that escapes me on a daily basis. Take breathing for example. I don’t have allergies, typically I’m not congested and I breathe without effort or having to think about it.
So until I’m congested from a cold I don’t really think about it too much. Yet when I have a cold I’m sooooo happy when I can breathe easily again. Isn’t that true of most things we take for granted?
My mom was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2011. The last four years of her life her breathing became more labored to the point where she had to be on oxygen to live while her lungs slowly stopped working. I think about how being able to breathe became so precious to her in her last few years and what she would’ve given to breathe with ease again.
Funny how we take things for granted until we no longer have them. Health, relationships, money, work……
What if every day you made a point of being grateful for something that’s a “constant” in your life? Like breathing, seeing, hearing, walking, your home, cat, wife, husband, kids, dog, car, job, health…….
How do you think your life would change if you stopped taking it for granted? The more you find to appreciate, the more things to appreciate show up in your life. Pretty simple, isn’t it? Today, yes today stop and think of something in your life you take for granted and say, “thank you”.
